When Is the Best Time to Buy a Yacht in Dubai?
By Jyrki Jaamaa, Managing Director3 min read
The honest answer: the best time to buy a yacht in Dubai is earlier than most buyers think. New boats need ordering in spring or summer to arrive before the October to April season; pre-owned deals are often best in the quiet summer months when fewer buyers compete. Waiting until the season starts usually means paying more, choosing from less, or missing the season entirely. Here is how the calendar really works.
The seasonal rhythm
Dubai's prime cruising season runs roughly October to April. Demand for boats, both new and pre-owned, builds ahead of it and peaks within it. That single fact drives everything else: buy against the rhythm, not with it.
Buying new: order early
New yachts are not showroom purchases; they are built to order. Between specification, build slots, shipping and commissioning, the lead time on a new model is measured in months. If you want to be on the water for the season, the order belongs in spring or summer. As the official Jeanneau dealer we can tell you current lead times per range, from a Cap Camarat to a Jeanneau Yachts 60, and which models have earlier slots. Our guide to which Jeanneau fits you is the right starting point.
Model-year changeovers matter too. When a new version of a model is announced, outgoing-specification boats can be attractively priced, and early orders on the new version secure the first slots. A dealer who knows the factory calendar earns their keep here.
Buying pre-owned: summer is your friend
The pre-owned market follows the season in reverse. In the heat of summer there are fewer active buyers, and sellers who want to move before the next season are more open to negotiation. The trade-off is selection: the widest choice appears as owners upgrade around the season, but so does the competition. Either way, condition beats timing; a well-kept boat at a fair price in November beats a tired one cheap in July, as we explain in new versus pre-owned.
Boat shows: compare, then commit
The Gulf's boat-show calendar clusters around the season. Shows are the best place to compare many boats in a day, and dealers often hold announcements and attractive terms for them. But desirable models can sell off the dock, so do the homework first: budget set (see how much a yacht costs in Dubai), size decided (see what size you need), sea trial planned.
The one timing rule that always applies
Whatever the calendar says, the running costs start when you buy. Budget them first with our guide to the cost of owning a yacht in Dubai, and remember a managed yacht can earn charter income from its very first season.

Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to buy a yacht in Dubai?
For new yachts, order in spring or summer so the boat arrives before the October to April cruising season; build and delivery lead times make season-start orders too late. For pre-owned, the quieter summer months often bring more motivated sellers and better negotiating room.
Do yacht prices drop in the Dubai summer?
Pre-owned asking prices are set by individual sellers, but the quieter summer market generally means fewer competing buyers and more willingness to negotiate. New-boat pricing follows the manufacturer's list and changes with model years rather than seasons.
Should I wait for a boat show to buy?
Boat shows are excellent for comparing many boats in one place, and dealers often reserve announcements and attractive terms for them. But the best-specified popular models can sell from the show itself, so arrive with your homework done.
